VAIKUNTA EKADASI

Vaikunta Ekadashi falls in the month of Marga-seersha (December-January). This is observed with all solemnity in the temples of Lord Vishnu. It was on this day that during the “Sagara Manthana” (churning of the ocean), ‘Amrit’ (nectar) emerged out of the ocean and was distributed to the Gods. The Hindus consider this day very auspicious and it is believed that those who die on this day are freed from the rounds of birth and death; they directly reach Vaikunta, the abode of Lord Vishnu. It is for this reason that the Great King Bheeshma waited long on this bed of arrows, to leave his last breath. Hence it is also called Bheeshma Ekadasi.

On this day CHBS 3rd Layout Venkateshwara temple organises the Darshan of Lord Sri Venkateshwawra. The Vaikunta Dwara (the door of heaven) will be open as early as 6 am and ensures darshan for even the last devotees. The deity will be decorated with a SILVER ARTICLES AND FLOWERS. Over a Ten thousand devotees will visit the temple on that day to have darshan of Lord Venkateshwara. On that day Mahaprasada (Laddu and kara path) will be distributed to all the devotees throughout the day.

PAVITROTSAVA

Pavatrotsavam is an annual ritual in Vijayanagar Sri Venkateshwara Temple. Pavitrotsava is derived from the combination of two words Pavitra (holy) & Utsava (Festival). This Utsava is penitential as well as propritiatory and its main objective is to get rid of the evil that might have been caused due to omissions and commissions in the performance of various rituals throughout the year. The festival is also known as Dosha Nivarana (error correction), Sarva Yajna Phalapradha (The one ritual that equals the holiness of rites all year long), Sarva Doshaprasamana (Removal of all errors).

Pavitra is a means towards Purification. That is why dharba grass worn in a loose knot round the finger usually herals the performance of any religious rite.

The Jayakhya Samhita explains that Pavitra protects one from evil. The Puranas prescribe Pavitra Aarohana (adorning the deity with Pavitra sanctified garlands of thread) as an integral part of the rituals during the worship of Lord Vishnu. Pavitra is the name given to strings made up of smooth, fine & white threads (silk, cotton).

During Rathotsava draws a huge crowd of devotees, taking part during the procession in the main throughfares of the locaility.

Sevakarthas for morning and evening rituals book their sevas in advance and they participate in daily utsavas with divinity.
